The Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 (formerly known as SkyConnect) is the perfect solution for those looking to turn their home into a smart environment with practicality and efficiency. Compatible with Zigbee networks and prepared to support the Matter protocol in future firmware updates, this USB adapter was specially developed for Home Assistant users. Based on Silicon Labs' powerful EFR32 series (EZSP v8), it offers transmission power of up to +20 dBm and allows quick and simple updates directly via USB, thanks to Over-The-Wire (OTW) technology. The device also comes with an extension cable and is fully compatible with high-speed USB 2.0, ensuring reliable performance and easy installation in any environment.
The equipment is based on a Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 SoC, incorporating a 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.15.4 radio MCU for multiprotocols, capable of simultaneously managing Zigbee 3.0 (EmberZNet/EZSP) and Thread (OpenThread/Spinel, including Matter/CHIP over Thread) technologies through firmware in RCP (Radio Co-Processor) mode.
Direct local serial communication will be carried out via an integrated USB to UART bridge/converter, likely a chip from the Silicon Labs CP210x series.
To facilitate interaction with Ember stacks for Zigbee and Matter, Home Assistant will provide a plugin, ensuring regular firmware updates to optimize the user experience with the Zigbee/Matter adapter. The USB device is Plug and Play, fully compatible with Home Assistant's Zigbee home automation integration, promoting an accessible approach for newcomers.
