Does the Shelly Button Add-On work on its own?
No. The Button Add-On is a surface-mounted box that needs a Shelly relay or dimmer to work. The Shelly device is sold separately. Does it need a flush-mount box?
No. That is exactly the advantage - it mounts directly on the wall, without drilling or cutting chases. Which Shelly should I use with this box?
It depends on the application. To control a simple light, a Shelly 1PM Mini Gen3 is the most compact choice. For a lamp with dimming, use a Shelly Dimmer Gen3. Can I use it outdoors?
It is not recommended. The Button Add-On is designed for indoor use. The operating temperature is -20°C to 40°C, but it does not have IP protection against water or dust.
